Dear Parents,

We would like to invite you to the New Parents Support Group on Saturday, 30th May 2009. The New Parent Support Group comprises parents who have a child with Down syndrome from newborn to 4 years. This group serves both as a platform for parents to share on the progress and development of their child, as well as allow parents to share new knowledge and skills learnt.

For this upcoming session, DSA will be having a talk entitled “Speech Development of Children with Down Syndrome and Intervention Strategies for Parents and Caregivers”,, by Mrs Mira Yoon Rasaiah, who possesses a Masters in Special Education and  Masters in Applied Linguistics, as well as various teaching credentials from the United States.  Mira who has a 7 year old son, Eugene with Down syndrome, has just returned after living in the USA for the past 6 years.  

Mira’s talk will cover the following:
 

• Characteristics of speech development of children with Down syndrome
• Various issues that might impact their speech development.
• How parents/caregivers can support their children to develop communication skills.
