Dance instructors skilled in various dance styles from Apsara Asia, led by Kavitha Krishnan, creative director of Maya Dance theatre and veteran dance instructor with Down Syndrome Association (Singapore) teach participants dance techniques and moves from both traditional and modern dance styles. A group of volunteer students assist the instructors and our members in the class on a regular basis in efforts to create a fun and inclusive dance environment.

DSA Fusion Dance Ensemble aims to provide a platform to showcase our member’s talents of dancing and showcase their capabilities of performing arts items of various genre at various occasions and events.

The dance programme enables our members to:

• To understand & try out various movements that make up a dance;
• To provide opportunity for students to describe their interpretation of movements;
• To experience movements through non-structured approach;
• To understand the body as a “tool” for creating movements;
• Continue with dance exercise movements to increase body conditioning, strength and flexibility.
• To be introduced to the various modern dance styles such as Broadway jazz, funk, hip-hop, Balinese and creative contemporary music.
• Highlight the difference in each type of movements in relation to music;
• To explore the role of music in creating movements for dance choreography;
• Continue with dance exercise movements to increase body conditioning, strength and flexibility
• To provide opportunities for creativity in creating simple dance choreography
• To orientate the dancers to available space that they can see and feel within the performing area
• Improve spontaneity in adjusting to space when dancing.
• To promote social integration and awareness in relation to their peers and other volunteer dancers in the dance group

Lessons are ongoing on a weekly basis at DSA Bishan Dance Studio as follows:

Beginners Group (Thursday) – 6.45pm to 8.15pm
Advanced Group (Saturdays) – 2.30pm to 4.30pm
