“The body says what words cannot.” -- CREATIVE DANCE

Objectives:

Creative dance helps students to develop as effective communicators through the art of body language. It equips the students with a medium for self-expression, communicating their feelings, thoughts, and ideas through dance, and enhances their interpersonal social relation skills by increasing their ability to better interpret interpersonal nonverbal communication. Creative dance provides opportunities for experimentation and growth, encourages creative problem solving, risk-taking, and independence, at the same time instilling discipline, teamwork, and appropriate classroom behaviors. Artistic self-expression acts as an outlet for both the student’s imagination and negative feelings that may impede their success in school. Creative dance builds self-image, self-direction, and self-awareness, and inspires self-confidence and self-esteem essential for effective learning and success in all areas of the students’ lives.

Brief synopsis of performance / outline of workshop:

Students will be introduced to the elements of dance and movement and guided in the active exploration and experimentation of these elements to help them understand and gain control of them, and to use them creatively for artistic expression. Lessons will cover aspects of dance and movement that helps students gain awareness and control of their bodies, a sense of rhythm, dynamics, time and spatial relations, and how these elements interact to make for effective communication through dance and movement. Students will also learn how to explore, expand and structure ideas to translate them into meaningful movement. Materials based on the students’ curriculum will also be included and used as a basis for ideas in the workshop to help students relate what they learn to the world around them.

Highlights that students can expect from your Programme:

Students will get to explore and experiment with how their bodies can move and with the different possibilities, variations, and combinations of the elements of dance movement. Students can look forward to exploring and experimenting in creating movements and sequences which they will have a chance to perform. They will also have a chance to create sequences and teach them to other students in the workshop, sharing and learning from each other at the same time.

At the end of the programme, students will learn to / understand:

Students will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of dance and movement, and be comfortable with using their bodies to express themselves, and to understand and interact with others. Apart from learning the fundamentals of dance like space, time, rhythm, force, and control, students will grow in their kinesthetic intelligence, cognitive abilities like creative problem solving, conceptual understanding and representation, as well as become resourceful and confident individuals able to work both independently and as part of a team.
