BOWLING

Bowling is considered as a sport for the entire family to play and enjoy. It is a lifetime fitness sport which contributes to balance, coordination and motor skills and is able to fill the needs of many as it is a simple game. The rules are not complicated and the basics of how to roll the ball could be learned through progressive practices. Thus, Bowling is an excellent recreational activity for all ages and ability levels.

Some of the benefits of bowling include fat burning, promoting good muscle tone and improving interpersonal social skills. It is basically an anaerobic exercise which actually promotes burning of fats and the swinging, twisting and walking motion promotes a great muscular exercise, thereby enhancing muscle tone and reflexes. When taking turns during each game, members learn to socialize with the group and cheer for each other to dismiss any atmosphere of disappointment. To conclude, bowling promotes a holistic approach towards individuals in terms of social skills, interpersonal relationships, team-playing and turn-taking, sportsmanship, patience, behavioral control and a great way to increase opportunities for a fun-filled bonding time. Mr. Tan Kim Joo, a veteran bowler, instructs and teaches members the basic techniques of bowling. He engages members according to their individual level and ability in which the members progress through constant practices.

Bowling activities are held Every Saturday 10.00am to 11.30am at SRC Club, Padang.

SOCCER

Soccer is a game of skill, balance and agility which has many benefits, especially for those who constantly play and watch the game. It has multiple health benefits as it is a regular aerobic physical activity which increases an individual’s fitness level and enhances their muscular capacity and stamina to accommodate a competitive exercise.

Through constant practices, individuals will observe a marked improvement in their psycho-motor skills, physical endurance and agility as well as mental capacity in terms of will power as one trains their determination to score a goal. Physical activity reduces feelings of depression and anxiety, improves mood and promotes a sense of well-being in an individual. Team sports would teach individuals how to be a participating contributing member and encourages discipline especially when rules need to be followed. It gives them an opportunity to develop friendship and to train muscles and senses; sport is definitely a means to improve their gross motor development skills.
In collaboration with the Eagles Soccer School, Mr. Bernard Norbert and Mr. Mutu, both veteran soccer coaches, train our DSA Singapore soccer members the basic control of the ball, soccer kicking techniques, goal scoring, foot training and sharpening their running and breathing skills. These are among the many aspects of soccer training which our members learn during the soccer clinics we conduct. In addition, positions such as Captain, Mid Fielder and Goalkeeper provide opportunities for our members to utilise their leadership skills.

The soccer training is ongoing every Sunday 8.00am to 9.30am at Farrer Park Soccer Field, Opp KK Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

SWIMMING

Swimming involves a full body workout which improves cardiovascular conditioning, strengthening of muscles, endurance, posture and flexibility at the same time. Swimming promotes multiple health benefits such as a whole body conditioning; it has a low risk of injury and is a low-impact exercise as there is no stress on your bones, joints or connective tissues due to the buoyancy of the water. Also, it promotes blood circulation, improves blood pressure, regulates breathing and reduces stress as it is relaxing in nature. Lessons are taught by instructors from Seal Swim School International Singapore.

Swimmers in the beginners’ class learn the fundamental aspects of swimming and are initially made at ease in being in the water by developing confidence. Other areas include: breathing techniques, floating, kicking, and introduction to the various swimming strokes. The intermediate class covers a higher difficulty in swimming strokes, correction of stroke techniques, endurance and stamina.

Lessons are ongoing as follows:

Swimming (Beginners): Every Friday 7.00pm to 8.00pm at SAFRA, Mt Faber
