As part of our goal of nurturing talents, motivating minds and overcoming disability, DSA offers:
Visual Art Classes conducted by Nancy & Nanda
DSA is pleased to introduce to our members the new Arts instructors, Nancy Renirie and Nanda Lourier, who took over the art lessons in August 2008 from Esther Joosa. The objective of the art lessons remains client-centered and is focused on using art as an enrichment of social communication, creativity and problem solving skills. Nancy and Nanda work with different materials and look into each student individual needs and talents. “As each individual has their own skills and challenges, we use art as a way of expressing themselves. Whatever they face in their life, art should be a way to give them the chance to be themselves, explore themselves and to grow individually.” Nancy & Nanda Wednesday (Adults Group): The Arts instructors work together as part of the AEP using themes like Halloween, Christmas etc. during the year. With the young adults, the focus will be; Using art as an expression (Eg. self confidence, emotions and attitudes) Using art as a way to express member’s personality, character and capabilities Using art to finish a product (Holistic social integration) Long term goal: To provide opportunities to make and finish a product. When they will be able to sell their own product, they would as feel part of the society where they have an increase sense of self esteem and contribution to the community.
Thursday: This session is targeted at children and is merely focused on developing interest and self motivation through art. The instructors motivate the students to experience their own senses and to express their own creativity and character by using art in different ways such as drawing, painting, using handicraft (Eg. Working with paste, wood, clay etc). The goal of the exercise is to help students develop greater self esteem, personality and basic skills necessary for artwork. Lessons are ongoing every Thursdays as follows: Intermediate Group – 3.30pm to 5pm Beginners Group – 7pm to 8.30pm
