Arts and Enrichment Programme

As part of our goal of nurturing talents, motivating minds and overcoming disability, DSA offers:

Visual Art Classes conducted by Esther Joosa

A specially designed visual art program for individuals with Down syndrome is available on a weekly basis. Classes are conducted by Esther Joosa, a specialist art educator and education consultant.  She has over fifteen years of experience in teaching art in many educational settings in Singapore.  The main focus of this program is the use of visual art as a mediator in the enhancement of social communication, meaning making, creativity and problem solving skills. Due to the unique and individual character of the arts each participant is guided by personalized goals. The program takes its strength from working with the family and mainstream art approaches with a focus on the multiple intelligences, socially constructed learning and individual abilities. For the very young there is a strong focus on developing self motivation in the use of the arts. For them this art program includes activity based intervention whereby naturally occurring art experiences will be mediated into desired objectives and learning experiences.
