DSA Resource Center The DSA’s Resource Center was established primarily to enrich and expand parents’ repertoire of parenting skills – enhancing their understanding when working with their child, as well as serves to provide information services to DSA members, researchers, students, and other members of the community. It comprises print materials (books, journals, children books and other reference materials), educational toys, and audio-visual materials. There are currently over a thousands books, more than 300 educational toys, and approximately one hundred audio-visual materials (CDs & VCDs) at our resource centre. Book section The DSA book section comprises a collection of printed materials like Resource books, Reference books, Journals, Children books, and Newsletters. These materials provide information on various issues and topics pertaining to Down syndrome to better equip its readers with a more comprehensive understanding about Down syndrome. There are over a thousands printed materials in our resource center. Toy Section The DSA toy section is another important resource for the development of our children with Down syndrome. These educational toys assist in the development of the child’s eye-hand coordination, fine and gross motor skills, concentration span, problem-solving skills, as well as provide important opportunities for early literacy and numeracy teaching. There are more than 300 toys in our toy section, and they are categorized according to subjects/development intervention such as: Puzzles
The DSA Audio-Visual section consists of a compliation of CD/VCD programs and software on various relevant topics pertaining to Down syndrome, such as teaching persons with Down syndrome maths, time-telling, and social skills. Other materials also include therapeutic teaching and advocacy resources. |
