The main objective of this programme is to develop parents, who are interested to be equipped with the fundamental knowledge and skills, to be more effective parent volunteers/counsellors and support group facilitators.
This programme which consists of 4 sessions, is taught through a series of interactive lectures, case discussions, demonstrations, video screenings, and role play. Some of the main topics will include the following: · Understanding the impact of parenting a child with Down syndrome · Understanding myself and how I differ from others · Effective communication · Effective mentoring Details of the sessions are as follows:
Training Venue: DSA, Bishan Junction 8, Office Tower, #06-04 Please be punctual for all 4 training sessions. Light refreshments will be provided.
Parents who have completed this programme would be expected to be part of the DSA parent mentoring group as volunteer parent counsellors to new parents with children with Down syndrome, as well as be facilitators for our family support group activities. We hope that through this programme, interested parents would be better empowered with the fundamental knowledge and skills, to assist and support other parents with children with Down syndrome.
