| | | About World Down Syndrome Day 2010 Down Syndrome International (DSI) has officially earmarked 21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down syndrome. Over 20 countries around the world have been celebrating World Down Syndrome Day since its inception in Singapore in 2006. Down Syndrome Association (Singapore), as part of the universal Down syndrome community, will be commemorating and celebrating World Down Syndrome Day through a Charity Walk named “Step Up and Stride for Down syndrome”. The theme of the Walk is “Walking together towards an inclusive community”. The objective is to create awareness about Down syndrome, promote acceptance of diversity and celebrate the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome.
